About this list

The groups on this page are closed to outsiders: they belong to a school’s own pupils, or, in the case of the Hector Children’s Academy, to primary pupils whom their schools have nominated. In Mannheim the Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium holds its chess working group on Friday afternoons, helped by pupil mentors, and holds the bronze seal of a German chess school; the Carl-Benz-Schule, a vocational school, brought its group to the first “Long Afternoon of Chess” at its partner school in 2026.

In Ludwigshafen the Max-Planck-Gymnasium runs its group on Friday afternoons for years five to thirteen. The Hector Children’s Academy teaches chess in courses that run over several weeks at the Südstadtschule in Schwetzingen, the Friedrich-Grundschule in Weinheim, the Schillerschule in Walldorf and the Martin-von-Adelsheim-Schule in Adelsheim, for beginners and for advanced pupils.
