About this list

The places on this page say in so many words that beginners are welcome. In Mannheim the TeeCafe Tilia’s Thursday chess evenings provide the boards, cost nothing and welcome beginners and onlookers. The multi-generation house in Frankenthal runs its Monday meeting for people who want to learn chess or play a little better, in a relaxed atmosphere, and the integration centre in Bensheim asks for no registration and no prior knowledge at its free Thursday meeting.

Two sports clubs make room for newcomers too. The DJK 1958 Zuzenhausen holds a Friday chess meeting with training at the demonstration board, mostly for children, followed by a games group. The Schachklub 1995 Laudenbach, which meets on Thursdays at the Gaststätte Zum Bahnhof, invited beginners from five to ninety-nine to a free course in the inn’s side room in October 2026.
